Hallux Rigidus Treatment Houston, TX

Big Toe Arthritis

Hallux Rigidus is arthritis of the joint at the base of the big toe. It is the most common joint to have arthritis in the foot. It causes pain, and you can develop bone spurs on the top and sides of the joint, which tend to be painful when shoes press on them and with range of motion of the joint.

Bog toe arthritis can be treated with stiff soled shoes or a stiff insert in the shoe, steroid injections and anti-inflammatory medication. When needed, surgery can be helpful for removing bone spurs, and fusing or replacing the joint. A joint spacer such as a Cartiva implant may be used.
